Cookie Policy

Last updated: February 14, 2026

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by websites you visit. They help websites remember your preferences and improve your experience. PayProof uses a minimal approach to cookies, relying primarily on localStorage for essential functionality.

2. Our Minimal Cookie Approach

PayProof does not use traditional HTTP cookies for tracking or advertising. We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies that identify individual users. Instead, we use browser localStorage for essential application state.

3. What We Store

The following data is stored in your browser's localStorage exclusively for application functionality:

Authentication Token

Purpose: Keep you logged in. Type: JWT access token. Duration: 15 minutes (auto-refreshed). Strictly necessary — PayProof cannot function without this when logged in.

Preferred Currency

Purpose: Display prices in your chosen currency. Type: Currency code (e.g., "EUR"). Duration: Persistent until changed. Functional preference.

User Role

Purpose: Show the correct dashboard (Candidate or Employer). Type: Role string. Duration: Persistent until changed. Strictly necessary for navigation.

Theme Preference

Purpose: Remember your display preferences. Type: Theme string. Duration: Persistent. Functional preference.

4. Third-Party Services

Some third-party services integrated with PayProof may set their own cookies:

Stripe (Payment Processing)

Stripe may set cookies for fraud prevention and payment security when you top up your wallet. These are strictly necessary for processing payments securely. See Stripe's Cookie Policy.

Google OAuth

If you sign in with Google, Google may set cookies for authentication. These are only used during the login flow. See Google's Cookie Policy.

5. What We Do NOT Use

PayProof does not use: advertising or retargeting cookies, social media tracking pixels, cross-site tracking, fingerprinting techniques, analytics services that identify individual users, or any form of user profiling for marketing purposes.

6. Managing Storage

You can clear all PayProof data from your browser at any time through your browser settings by clearing site data for payproof.co. This will log you out and reset your preferences. You can also use your browser's developer tools to inspect and remove specific localStorage entries.

7. EU Cookie Law Compliance

Under EU Directive 2009/136/EC and the ePrivacy Regulation, strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. Since PayProof only stores data essential for the service to function (authentication, role, currency preference), explicit cookie consent is not required. However, we provide this policy for full transparency.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we introduce any non-essential cookies or tracking in the future, we will update this policy and implement a cookie consent mechanism before doing so.
